Obama and the Fairness Doctrine

The White House issued a statement saying President Obama opposes reinstating the Fairness Doctrine.

"As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated,"

Great right? After all, this is in fact consistent with what Barack said on the campaign trail.

"He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible," Ortiz added. "That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets."

Well, maybe. The Fairness Doctrine can be reinstated without calling it the Fairness Doctrine. A simple change in policy can be made when Obama appoints the new chair of the FCC.

FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell had this to say back in January:

it would not come back wearing a big sign saying, "it's me, the fairness doctrine," but would likely instead be rebranded.

As recently as February 16th top Obama administration adviser David Axelrod said:

“I’m going to leave that issue to Julius Genachowski, our new head of the FCC, and the president to discuss,

We must be watchful and careful. I hope the new President will not bring this blatent censorship of opposing viewpoints back as policy.

Obama Fear Mongers to Pass "Stimulus" then Goes on Vacation

The New York Post reports:

After pushing Congress for weeks to hurry up and pass the massive $787 billion stimulus bill, President Obama promptly took off for a three-day holiday getaway.

The White House issued a statement Feb. 5 clarifying the earlier news reports, saying the Census Bureau director would “work closely” with the White House, not be controlled by it.

Oh yeah, I feel much better now.

Dictator Chavez Wins Electoral Victory...and Wants to Talk to Obama

Surely President Obama wouldn't dream of engaging a Thug like this right? Wrong!

Capitol Hill Democrats are moving towards silencing Conservative Talk Radio.

Democratic lawmakers who support the doctrine say it will help increase the number of liberal shows in a landscape dominated by conservative talk radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh.

"I absolutely think it's time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves," Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., told liberal radio host Bill Press last week. She said she expects hearings soon on reviving the policy,

A Democrat Congressman from Florida has introduce a bill (HR 645) that would create Dentention Camps for US Citizens on Military Bases.

The proposed bill, which has received little mainstream media attention, appears designed to create the type of detention center that those concerned about use of the military in domestic affairs fear could be used as concentration camps for political dissidents,

Meanwhile, the discussion in Washington D.C. has turned towards eliminating the Secret Ballot for Union Elections.

Unions support the bill simply because it makes the unionization process easier, said James Sherk, a labor expert at the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think-tank in Washington.

"Oftentimes, workers that sign the card don't really support the unionization of the company, but sign the card" to get the union organizer "off their backs,"
